Skilled Work Visa Information

General Skilled Migration (GSM) visas are designed for individuals who possess skills listed in the Skilled Occupation List (MLTSSL and STSOL) introduced on 1st July 2017. This visa category includes various subclasses and imposes specific eligibility criteria.

To be eligible for a GSM visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be under 45 years old at the time of application.
  • Hold qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor’s degree, diploma, or trade qualification.
  • Select an occupation from the approved Skilled Occupation List (MLTSSL, STSOL).
  • Complete a skills assessment from a relevant assessing authority suitable for your occupation.
  • Provide acceptable scores in English language proficiency tests such as IELTS, OET, Pearson (Academic), or Cambridge (CAE).

The GSM program comprises different visa categories, categorized as permanent or provisional, and depending on your location can apply for it either onshore or offshore.

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (provisional) visa (subclass 494)

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa Subclass 494. The subclass 494 visa is a provisional residency visa available to skilled workers. It is available both to skilled workers who are already living and working in Australia as temporary residents and to skilled workers living outside Australia.

Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186)

This visa lets skilled workers who are nominated by their employers live and work in Australia permanently. The Labour Agreement stream might be for you if you currently work, or will work, for an employer who is party to a labour agreement.

Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482)

This visa enables employers to address labour shortages by bringing in skilled workers where employers can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian worker. Stay. You can stay for up to 2 years or up to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187)

The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme subclass 187 is a visa program that allows employers in regional, remote or low population areas to sponsor (nominate) skilled overseas workers for permanent residence.
